There was much excitement at Dublin Airport last night due to the arrival of boxing legend Muhammad Ali. The legendary boxer actually has Irish roots with his great grandfather Abe Grady leaving Ireland back in the year 1860.
Ali is here on charity work and spoke of his excitement upon arrival. He began his charity work at a reception in Dublin last night. His battle against Parkinson’s disease has been well highlighted over the years.
His wife Lonnie has accompanied him on this trip. Today they will visit Ennis where a private concert is being held where Ali will be made a free man of Ennis. Locals will also get a chance to see Ali as he will also be paying a public visit to the town.
The mayor of Ennis Frankie Neylon has compared the local buzz surrounding the event as similar to an all Ireland final. It is hoped that the event may become a regular thing.

Regular readers of Dublin Airport car hire will be aware that we are all about offering excellent value deals for our customers. The aim of our service is to compare prices from several firms in order to find the best deal.
This is obviously something that the former Irish Minister John O’Donoghue failed to do during trips to Britain in 2006 and 2007. According to a recent report the minister’s bill for car hire came to a truly staggering €21,289.57
There were four visits in total of which three involved visits to the Cheltenham and Ascot race festivals. There was also a visit to London for some television commitments. The largest bill came in 2006 during St Patrick’s week when over seven and a half thousand euro was spent on car hire pickups.
The Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism has defended the costs saying these trips were necessary in order to promote Irish tourism while every effort was made to find cheap rates.

The Dublin Airport Authority came in for more strong criticism last week as up to ninety passengers missed their flights due to security delays on the morning of Friday August 21st.
Aer Lingus stated that thirty five of their passengers missed flights while Ryanair say fifty of their passengers missed flights. According to Ryanair it was taking as long as forty five minutes to get through security. There have recently been some suggestions that Dublin Airport security staff are performing on a work to rule basis.
SIPTU have clearly stated however that any actions been taken by staff have not been approved by them. The DAA have also said they have not been informed of any staff protest actions. They laid the blame on passengers for not leaving enough time to get through security.
