Car Hire in Ireland

Hiring a car is an exceptionally popular way of traveling around Ireland. Large lines of people waiting at car hire desks at Dublin Airport, Shannon Airport and Cork Airport certainly bear testament to this.

The fact is that Ireland is not like most Western European countries when it comes to public transport. The train network has undergone improvement in recent years but is still years behind becoming a top service like its European neighbours.

The system is very much built around Dublin so you may end up going from one end of the country to another just to get a connecting train in Dublin. Price is also a major issue with a two and a half hour journey from Dublin to cork costing sixty five euro. It often actually works out cheaper to fly this route!

The national bus service is better though in truth not great. It connects almost every town but this means you could end up on a six hour bus trip from Dublin to cork where as if you used a private coach you could be there in three and a half hours.

Car hire can often work out as a cheaper option with rental cars available from just twenty euro a day. You are also afforded the freedom of traveling at your own pace. Search for a quote today and see if it is the right option for your trip to Ireland

Consumers are being warned to book car hire as far in advance as possible for their summer holidays this year. There is expected to be a shortage of rentals cars in many popular destinations including Dublin Airport.

Recently a customer of Headwater Holidays tried to book a holiday package at the last minute. Accommodation and flights proved to be no problem but when it came to car hire there was none available despite trying several car hire companies. The MD spoke of it being the first time she had ever encountered this situation.

The Easter holiday season this year proved a difficult time for many to hire a car. The cost comparison site travel supermarket had no cars available in the last couple of days leading up to Easter in such key locations as Alicante and Malaga.

The MD of Holiday Autos spoke of the cost cutting which has had to take place in the car hire industry in the last year. Fleet sizes have been cut by up to thirty percent. He expects a shortage of rental cars in many popular holiday destinations this summer.

This view however is not shared by Avis who believe there wont be any major problems and that they will be able to move around rental cars to accommodate customers.

Book your Dublin Airport Car Hire early this year to avoid disappointment and of course to save yourself some holiday cash.

Dublin Airport is Ireland’s biggest and busiest airport. It has continued to grow steadily over the years. It is situated ten kilometres from the Dublin city centre. Traffic can be quite slow at peak times particularly on public transport such as Dublin bus.

Over 23 million passengers used Dublin Airport in 2007 with less than a million accounting for domestic flights. Ireland’s two major airlines Aer Lingus and Ryanair both have their main offices based at Dublin Airport.

Due to the continued growth of the airport, building work has been constantly going on for years now. Plans to build a second terminal began in 2005 at an estimated cost of six hundred million. Finding the Cheapest Car Hire Rates

Looking to hire a car? You need to consider whether you are you going on a family holiday or an important business trip in order to make your journey as hassle free as possible? Are you positive that you have sourced the best hire car rates possible? Despite what you may have heard, car rental companies are not all the same. All of the major international agents have their own prices and special rates, which make it well worth checking around to see what other car hire sites have to offer.

“I thought all the major car hire agents charged much the same car rental rates?” Not true, the car hire industry is extremely competitive and all the major companies are battling it out for your money. They are continually trying to steal each other’s customers. Most will try to entice new customers with special promotions deals.

“I’ve heard it’s cheaper to rent weekly than daily?” Yes, this is true; the vast majority of car hire companies will offer a cheaper weekly rate. Sometimes you could pay more for 5 daily rentals than a one-week rental so even if you don’t want the car the whole week its well worth asking

Are the major car hire companies the best? No, certainly not always, minor car hire companies can quite frequently propose a superior car hire rate. Just be careful that you are dealing with a respectable car hire company. Be wary of companies that have exceptionally low rates. Sometimes these agents don’t offer unlimited mileage and entail unseen costs

When looking to hire a car, always do your homework. Compare each company’s rate with what you have already been offered. It could save you quite a tidy sum.
