Fingal

Dún Laoghaire – Rathdown County

This is a must-see for Dublin visitors. It houses Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre which had more than several towers which formed the boundary of Dalkey. However, now a single tower is visible and it includes a murder hole, a barizan, gardenrobe, and battlements dating from 1429. A short walk down from the castle and you come across Sandy Cove which was the temporary residence of author James Joyce. A small museum called the James Joyce Museum is located close-by exhibiting letters, photographs, and personal possessions of the author. The wonderful shoreline means a host of water sports are hosted all through the year.

The national stud farm in Kildare may be of interest to horse racing lovers. It is located three kilometers outside Kildare town and is the best stud farm in Ireland. There have been many great horses bred here while in the museum visitors can see the skeletal remains of the famous racehorse Arkle.

Housed in the same location are the Japanese gardens. This is a fantastic spot for some relaxation and pleasant walking time. The Gardens have been perfectly preserved as a piece of Ireland’s heritage and are considered to be among the best Japanese Gardens in Europe.
