Dublin Airport is Ireland’s biggest and busiest airport. It has continued to grow steadily over the years. It is situated ten kilometres from the Dublin city centre. Traffic can be quite slow at peak times particularly on public transport such as Dublin bus.

Over 23 million passengers used Dublin Airport in 2007 with less than a million accounting for domestic flights. Ireland’s two major airlines Aer Lingus and Ryanair both have their main offices based at Dublin Airport.

Due to the continued growth of the airport, building work has been constantly going on for years now. Plans to build a second terminal began in 2005 at an estimated cost of six hundred million. The terminal should be capable of handling up to fifteen million passengers a year. It is hoped the terminal will open in 2010 (April)
